Unlike cup or cone points that “bite” into the metal, the flat point distributes pressure evenly across a larger surface area. This makes them the ideal choice for securing components on thin-walled shafts or where the screw must press against a “flat” machined on a shaft. They are also widely used as adjusting screws where the tip must slide against a surface during calibration.
