Description
HBS Fasteners manufactures premium Slotted Cheese Head Machine Screws with a Dog Point, combining the classic deep-slotted drive with a specialized locating tip. The “Cheese Head” provides a deep slot for high-torque manual tightening, while the “Dog Point” (also known as a Full Dog or Half Dog point) is a cylindrical unthreaded extension at the end of the screw. This point is designed to project into a hole or groove on a shaft, allowing the screw to act as a pivot, a stop, or a permanent locator without the threads coming into contact with the inner mating surface.

-
Standard: Based on DIN 84 (Head dimensions) with a DIN 915 style Dog Point extension.
-
Head Style: Cheese Head (cylindrical with a flat top and vertical sides).
-
Point Style: Dog Point (Cylindrical unthreaded tip) for precision locating.
-
Drive Type: Single Slot for use with standard flat-blade screwdrivers.
-
Size Range: Available in metric diameters from M2 to M12, with custom Dog Point lengths and diameters.
Material & Quality Excellence
-
Stainless Steel: Available in A2 (304) and A4 (316) for high-performance use in corrosive environments.
-
Other Materials: Produced in High-Tensile Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, and Brass for electrical applications.
-
In-House Control: Using raw materials from our own wire drawing facility, we ensure that the diameter of the Dog Point is ground to precise tolerances ($h9$ or $h11$), ensuring a perfect fit into the mating part without wobbling.
-
Surface Finishing: Options include Natural Finish, Zinc Plating, Black Oxide, and Nickel Plating.
Key Application Areas
-
Mechanical Linkages: Acts as a pivot pin for levers and arms where the screw must stay fixed while the part rotates.
-
Shaft Locating: Securing collars or gears to a shaft by seating the Dog Point into a pre-machined “dimple” or groove.
-
Precision Instruments: Used as a travel limit or “stop” screw to prevent over-rotation of internal mechanisms.
-
Electrical Switchgear: Ideal for terminal assemblies where the point guides the screw into the correct position before the threads engage.
